PDF to JPG Converter for High-Quality Page Images

Slides, one-pagers, and scanned forms often need to live as image files: a help center that embeds page screenshots, a deck pasted into a chat thread, or a portal that only accepts JPGs. This page paints each PDF page onto a canvas in your browser and hands back one image file per page, in JPG, PNG, or WebP. Type a range such as 1-3,5 to take a few pages out of a long report, or leave the box empty for the whole document. The file is read locally, so nothing is uploaded anywhere.

How It Works

The file is parsed by pdf.js, the same decoder browsers use to show PDFs, loaded straight from the bytes you picked. For each selected page, the page box is measured in points, a scale is computed so the page comes out at up to 1600 pixels across, and the page is painted onto an offscreen canvas. A white rectangle is drawn under the page first, so transparent margins do not turn into black bars once JPG encoding runs.

The canvas is then encoded with the format you chose. JPG and WebP take a quality number from the slider, where 1 gives the smallest, grainiest file and 100 keeps nearly all the detail; the size drop is steepest between about 40 and 80, and past 90 each point of quality costs more bytes than the one before. PNG ignores the slider, stores the pixels losslessly, and lands anywhere from three to ten times larger than a JPG of the same page. Page ranges such as 1-3,5,8- are parsed against the real page count before anything is drawn, so a group that starts past the end shows up as a note instead of a crash.

Every finished blob becomes a local object URL: a preview thumbnail in the results list and a download link named page-1.jpg, page-2.jpg, and so on. The byte totals are added up for the summary line. Nothing in this chain contacts a server, and the URLs live only until the next run or until you close the tab.

Before and After

Before (whole report, low quality)
handbook.pdf, 18 pages
format JPG, quality 20
every page downloaded one by one
After (range and quality set)
pages: 1-3,5
format JPG, quality 85
Exported 4 pages as JPG (612 KB)
Before (bad range typed)
pages: 0-2,20-30
file has 12 pages
no idea which part failed
After (range checked)
Range groups starting past page 12 were skipped.
pages 1-2 still exported
              page-1.jpg, page-2.jpg ready

Use Cases

Developer Production Workflow
Page shots for a docs site Two pages pulled for a client email Scans filed into a JPG-only portal
JPG at quality 85, range 1-3 WebP to keep the attachment under a limit PNG when stamp edges must stay hard
Previews sized at 1600 px across Whole deck exported in one pass Range typed around the signed page
Images land as page-1.jpg, page-2.jpg Byte totals summed in the summary line File stays on the laptop the whole time

Common Mistakes

  • Typing ranges the file cannot satisfy. A group such as 20-30 on a 12-page PDF is reported in the issues line while the valid pages still export, so read that line before trusting the results list.
  • Dropping the quality slider too far on pages full of type. Around 20 to 40, letters pick up mosquito noise and thin rules break up; stay at 80 or above when text is the point.
  • Expecting the slider to shrink PNG files. PNG is lossless and ignores quality entirely, so a huge scan stays huge until you switch to JPG or WebP.
  • Feeding a password-protected file to the page. The decoder refuses locked documents and the issues line says the file could not be opened; remove the password in a desktop app first.

Best Practices

  • Start at quality 85 for documents with text, then move down only when the file is still too big and the pages are mostly photographs.
  • Use the pages box on long PDFs. A 60-page report exported whole means 60 downloads to sort through, while a range such as 4-9 gives you one clean batch.
  • Match the format to the content: JPG for photos, PNG for charts and screenshots, WebP when you want both smaller files and decent edges.
  • Keep the resolution math in mind. 1600 pixels across an A4 width works out to roughly 190 DPI, which is plenty on a screen but shy of what some print shops ask for; measure the use before sending the files to print.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this PDF to JPG converter free to use?

Yes. The page runs on open libraries inside your browser, there is no account to make, and nothing is metered. Export as many pages as you need, as often as you like.

Does my PDF get uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read into memory with the File API, pdf.js paints each page onto a local canvas, and the images come back through object URLs that exist only in this tab. Closing the page discards all of it.

Should I pick JPG or PNG for page images?

JPG suits pages with photos or mixed content because the quality slider trades file size against detail. PNG keeps hard edges crisp for charts and screenshots, at the cost of larger files. WebP sits between the two on both size and sharpness.

How do I convert only certain pages?

Type a range such as 1-3,5 in the pages box, or leave the box empty for every page. The range is checked against the real page count, groups that start past the end are reported, and the valid pages still export.

How do I get a higher resolution image?

Each page is drawn at up to 1600 pixels across by default. Raise the quality slider for JPG and WebP, and pick PNG when you need the hardest edges, since PNG ignores the slider and keeps every pixel the canvas stored.

Can it convert a scanned PDF?

Yes. A scan is already stored as pictures, so each page paints exactly what the document shows. The output carries no text layer, which matches the shape the scan started in; run OCR elsewhere if you need selectable characters.

Can I batch convert a whole PDF at once?

Leave the pages box empty and press Export images. Every page is rendered in sequence, and each one appears in the results list with its own preview and download link.
